How to read this puzzle

Starting with a production building gives several useful limits, but the name of the building is not its Made in clue. That column tells you which machines can craft the guessed item itself.

Start this worked example with Assembling Machine 3. The six signals below show what that guess tells you about the answer.

From the clues to the answer

1. Stay with production buildings

   Assembling Machine 3 matches the Production tab. Neither of its direct ingredients—Assembling Machine 2 and Speed Module—is in the answer’s recipe. The answer needs more input types than the guess’s two, so another upgrade built from those same components is a poor fit.

2. Read what related to Assembler means

   The guess’s machine set contains only Assembler. A related result therefore means the answer can also be made in an Assembler, but has at least one additional compatible machine family. Foundry’s recipe supports both Assembler and Foundry. This describes crafting the building, not the recipes it runs after placement.

3. Check time, stack, and progression

   The answer takes longer than 0.5 seconds, stacks to fewer than 50, and does not have a Nauvis recipe unlock. Foundry fits all three: 10 seconds, a stack of 20, and Vulcanus. Its five direct inputs include Tungsten Carbide and Lubricant, rather than the two ingredients from the opening guess.
